Establish IT and Semiconductor Parks in Belagavi By Priyank Kharge

Bengaluru: The government is planning to establish IT Parks and Semiconductor Parks in Belagavi, which has been declared the state’s second capital and is a border district of Karnataka. The aim is to promote development and create employment opportunities for the unemployed, said Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, IT & BT Minister Priyank Kharge.

During the Question Hour session in the Legislative Assembly today, MLA Abhay Patil requested the government to set up IT and Semiconductor Parks in Belagavi to boost development and provide jobs for educated unemployed youth. Responding to this, the minister stated that the government has already taken steps toward establishing IT and Semiconductor Parks in Belagavi with the objective of development and employment generation.

The minister also said that initiatives such as establishing plug-and-play IT infrastructure, strengthening the startup and innovation ecosystem, accelerator networks and seed fund support, techceleration, comprehensive development, future technologies, Skill Karnataka, Idea2PoC Elevate (grant-in-aid), Rajiv Gandhi Entrepreneurship Program, Elevate Women Entrepreneurship, and grassroots innovation programs are being implemented.

Regarding land allocation for setting up IT and Semiconductor Parks in Belagavi, the government had written to the Union Defence Minister on January 8, 2021, requesting the transfer of the required land. Since no action has yet been taken by the Defence Department, the IT/BT Minister wrote again on September 9, 2021. On September 21, the Chief Minister also wrote to the Defence Minister, and on the same day, the Chief Secretary wrote to the Defence Secretary requesting that the land be handed over to the Karnataka government.

The minister further informed that steps are being taken to take over the Kalamandir building located in Tilakwadi, Belagavi, and establish a Global Technology Center (GTC) in collaboration with the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM).
